Most people do not breath properly – correctly. When you breath properly, your diaphragm, belly area, and rib cage should expand together in harmony.
When you don’t breath properly your body does not get enough oxygen to stay healthy. Our bodies need oxygen to survive.
Just normal day to day stresses can cause us to get into the bad habit of shallow breathing (breathing through the chest/shoulder area).

Please note – The step by step Belly breathing demonstration starts at about 1.50 min into the above video. The more you perform this exercise, the easier it will be to eventually breath correctly, naturally.
Doing yoga regularly is also a good way to get you to breath properly automatically.
